Exposition Shaken Winter

On February 27th and 28th, one of my works will be displayed at the Scheltema Complex in Leiden (NL), as part of the exposition Shaken Winter 'Niet Normaal'. I did not participate in Shaken Winter, but Shaken Fall 2009, but as I missed the exposition for that project and they have kindly invited me to join this one!

I'll likely be there on the Sunday, around noon, if you want to join me!

Help end malaria by 2015!

kiwanisPlease vote for the malaria project for the Kiwanis Worldwide Service Project. Malaria No More and Canadian Red Cross propose to end deaths caused by malaria in 2015, a goal endorsed by the global community.

Malaria kills 3,000 children in Africa every day. But thanks to a new generation of tools, on-the-ground successes and increased political and public support, the world is better prepared to defeat malaria now than at any other time in history. Investments in malaria are reaping huge rewards, and have helped reduce malaria deaths and illnesses by more than 50 percent in several African countries including Rwanda, Eritrea, Zambia, Botswana and the Islands of Zanzibar between 2000 and 2008.

The project would raise $60 million over six years for mosquito net distribution, training and technical assistance and awareness.

Please help me by voting for the malaria project and 'joining the discussion', explaining why you voted for the project! http://bit.ly/9PH7JP

Go here for more info on the project: http://bit.ly/cb34nq

Malaria is one of the diseases that is relatively easy to prevent and defeat! Especially with the recent prediction that there will be a good vaccine in three years and with the release of the medicinal patents!

I would much appreciate your help and would be delighted if you could also share this message with your network!

What would you be if…

...you weren't a Community Manager? Well that's the question for me, but the question applies to everyone. I often find myself wondering about what I would be doing if I wasn't a Community Manager. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I'm doing, a lot in fact. I get to interact with lots of people online, using textual communication and Social Media and not to forget, I get to write blogposts on subjects I find genuinely interesting. But still, sometimes I wonder what else I could be doing, had I made different choices; perhaps what I'll be doing in the future. Here's a few:

Animator

I'm very charmed by animation, and I would love to be an animator, but I don't believe I have enough talent, and therefore I've never pursued that option. I can't animate, I'd love to, but I don't have the patience to learn, at least not by myself.

Full-time Novelist

Being a novelist is something that is always on my mind and I'm guessing it always will be. I love language, and fiction. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with escapism, but either way, I enjoy writing fantasy, though not the kind about dragons. As much as I'd like to have writing be a full-time job, I'm lucky to be able to write as a hobby now. Exciting news on the matter probably coming soon.

Translator

As I have said before, I really enjoy language. My favourite language is English, so I'd be a translator English-Dutch-English. Preferably textual, but verbal would be ok too. Books would be great, or news articles.

Illustrator

Maybe I'd be an illustrator. Books, or small articles.

Concept Artist

I'd love to be concept artist for a game or a film, or an animation feature. Character design would also be great.

Psychologist

Helping people and listening to them, offering them advice is something I enjoy doing. It also interests me to know what drives people, what makes them tick. If I could have settled for a less creative education, it'd have been psychology. Something tells me I would be good at philosophy too, although I wouldn't want to be one for a living.

Journalist

Probably a columnist. Writing, giving opinions, causing a stir. Enough said.

What would you be? Leave your answer in the comments or write a blogpost about it and let me know!

Social Media Riddles

Sometimes social media doesn't make any sense to me at all. As some of you may well know, I'm currently a community manager for Malaria No More! NL. They've recently started a social media campaign, which includes widgets (see one of them at the bottom of this post).

On December 17th, the widgets have been places on websites a lot more than usual, but I can't seem to trace it back to any particular action that I've done. There has been no extra promotion, and I can't seem to find any website promoting them either. Unfortunately, I'm not able to see the info about where the widgets have been placed, just how many times.

Social media makes no sense...

My favorite widget is the mosquito swat game, which you can see below. Start spel means start game. Please help us out by placing it on your website by clicking on the bottom link and then promote it a little. It's for a good cause! Thanks!
